Neuro-affirmative Guidance for Raising Autistic & AuDHD Children & Teens

Standard Parenting Advice Wasn’t Built for Your Family.

When you are raising an Autistic or AuDHD child, conventional parenting books, behavioral reward charts, and well-meaning advice from pediatricians often make things worse. Standard methods rely on neurotypical assumptions about motivation, sensory regulation, and compliance, frequently leading to family burnout, constant meltdowns, and intense parental guilt.

Whether you are a neurodivergent parent navigating your own executive function limits, or a non-autistic parent trying to understand your child’s internal world, you don’t need another rigid program telling you to “be more consistent.”

This service provides a judgment-free, low-demand space to help you understand your child’s nervous system, audit your home’s sensory environment, and co-create practical routines that protect the battery of everyone under your roof.

Who This Is For

You are a parent of an autistic child or teen. You want to support them effectively without relying on compliance-based frameworks. You may be autistic yourself and navigating your own diagnosis alongside parenting.

What We Work On

1.Translating Meltdowns, Shutdowns, and Behavior:

Moving beyond behavior to understand your child’s sensory profile, capacity, and communication style.

Behavior is communication. We look underneath surface-level meltdowns, emotional outbursts, or severe task refusal to identify the root causes. Whether that’s unseen sensory overload, alexithymia, transition fatigue, or Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).

2.Designing home environments that reduce overwhelm:

Replacing rigid discipline with low-demand, nervous-system-first routines.

We audit your family’s daily points of friction – mornings, mealtimes, hygiene, homework, and bedtimes. Together, we build zero-demand workarounds, visual supports, and flexible containers that reduce stress for your child while preserving your energy as a caregiver.

3.Preventing Caregiver Burnout & Regulating Your Own Nervous System:

Supporting your own wellness as a parent (especially if you are also neurodivergent).

You cannot co-regulate a dysregulated child if your own battery is completely depleted. We focus on practical energy pacing for parents, setting compassionate boundaries, and unlearning the guilt associated with letting go of neurotypical parenting expectations.

4.Educational & Medical Advocacy Preparation:

Actionable scripts and documentation for IEPs, doctors, and family.

Communicating your child’s needs to schools, relatives, or medical providers can feel like an uphill battle. We help you create clear, objective accommodation profiles and self-advocacy scripts so you can advocate for your child effectively without getting dismissed.

5. Distinguishing Between “Behavior” and “Distress Communication”

Moving away from rewards, consequences, and compliance-based approaches to address true nervous system dysregulation.

Traditional parenting frameworks treat emotional reactions as choices to be modified or corrected. We reframe these moments as neurological distress signals. By identifying environmental triggers, energy depletion, and internal demand limits before a crisis occurs, we focus on restoring safety and co-regulation rather than enforcing obedience.

What I Do Not Do

  • Diagnose your child
  • Provide therapy for your child
  • Tell your child to “stop acting up”

Format

Sessions are for you as the parent. My experience shows those sessions are most effective when being held via live video sessions. We can include your child – with their consent – in those live video sessions. I do not provide text chat for the child only.

Pacing:

Weekly, bi-weekly or monthly live consultations paired with asynchronous text support for real-time parenting questions between sessions.

FAQ

No. We operate strictly from a neurodiversity-affirming framework and explicit opposition to compliance-based behavior modification (such as ABA). We do not try to eliminate stimming, force eye contact, or train your child to act neurotypical. Our goal is nervous system safety, communication accessibility, self-advocacy, and family burnout prevention.

No. These sessions are designed specifically for parents and caregivers to speak openly, process friction, and strategize without putting pressure on the child. Depending on your teen or older child’s preferences, they are welcome to participate if they choose, but it is never required.

This is extremely common. Many late-diagnosed adults discover their own neurodivergence while navigating their child’s diagnosis. We treat parent-child dynamics as a shared ecosystem. Every system we build considers both your child’s sensory needs and your own executive function limits so you aren’t forced to burn yourself out to support them.

We drop the neurotypical expectation that these tasks must be done in a conventional way. We look at sensory barriers (ARFID/food textures, water-on-skin aversion, fluorescent lighting, auditory fatigue) and demand-driven anxiety. We then co-create alternative, low-demand accommodations that fulfill the core health need without causing daily trauma.

Navigating unsolicited advice from well-meaning relatives is one of the most draining parts of parenting a neurodivergent child. We provide concrete boundaries, script responses, and the internal validation you need to stop justifying your family’s accommodations to people who don’t understand neurodivergence.

You do not need an official medical diagnosis to access this service. Waiting lists for developmental evaluations are notoriously long and expensive. If your child exhibits executive dysfunction, sensory distress, intense demand avoidance, or communication differences, we start helping your family immediately.

Yes. PDA is a neurodivergent profile rooted in an automatic autonomic threat response to demands. Standard behavioral strategies make PDA significantly worse. We specialize in low-demand parenting, collaborative problem-solving, and nervous-system-first approaches tailored specifically for PDA children and teens.

You will get concrete, real-world strategies. We don’t spend sessions offering vague platitudes like “just stay patient.” We analyze the exact sequence where a routine collapses (e.g., getting into the car at 8:00 AM) and design tangible adjustments to sensory inputs, language, timing, and transitions.

Parenting a neurodivergent child without a manual in a world built for neurotypicals is exhausting, and mistake-making is part of the process. This space is strictly zero-shame and anti-judgment. We focus entirely on understanding what happened, forgiving past missteps, and moving forward with better tools.

Only in some cases. If health and wellness coaching addresses stress management, caregiver burnout, and lifestyle adaptations related to health and developmental conditions, HSA/FSA administrators frequently accept these services. A Letter of Medical Necessity from you physician is required. Itemized receipts (superbills) can be provided upon request.
